About Money

It's a lot easier to BUDGET when you have actual money to budget with. The following section is here to offer budgeting help so you can put a little more in your pocket.

The best way to start is to take a look at what you have and what you need, so that you can see where you stand. A simple way to do this is with a Budget Calculator.

A Savings Plan!

Get into the habit of paying yourself first, this is the most effective way to save money. In fact, money never seen can't be missed. If your company can automatically deposit a percentage of your paycheck into a retirement account, the money never actually comes into your possession for you to spend. Other tips to make saving easier include:

  • Put your credit card in your freezer and thaw out only for emergencies (it's hard to go shopping at the mall with a frozen credit card).
  • Buy savings bonds (you can't redeem them until they mature-usually several years).
  • Put your money in a six-month or one-year certificate of deposit (CD) so that you can't touch it.

Most people agree that saving is a good thing; they just say that it's impossible because of their financial situation. In reality, money that comes in has three places it can go - savings, living expenses or debt payments. The choice is up to you.
